The service is free to use. If a medicine is supplied on the NHS, standard prescription charges may apply. If you’re exempt from prescription charges, your exemption still applies.

What is NHS Pharmacy First?

NHS Pharmacy First lets you get help for certain common conditions from a pharmacist, without needing a GP appointment. We assess your symptoms and advise on the next step.

What conditions can Pharmacy First help with?

It cover conditions like sore throat, earache in children, sinusitis, impetigo, infected insect bites, shingles, and uncomplicated urine infections in some women. Eligibility depends on your symptoms and age.

Do I need an appointment?

Not always. You can walk in and ask. If you offer booking on your site, you can also book a slot to reduce waiting.

What happens during the consultation?

A pharmacist will ask questions about your symptoms, any medicines you take, and your medical history. We may check things like temperature or visible symptoms if needed. Then we’ll explain your options

Can I get antibiotics or other prescription treatment?

If a pharmacist decides it is clinically appropriate and you meet the NHS criteria, you may be offered NHS treatment, which can include a prescription. If it is not suitable, we will advise on other options.
