NHS New Medicine Service
If you’ve started a new medicine, a pharmacist can check how you’re getting on, answer questions, and help you use your new medicine safely.
If you’ve started a new medicine, a pharmacist can check how you’re getting on, answer questions, and help you use your new medicine safely.
Starting a new medicine for a long-term condition can come with questions. The NHS New Medicine Service gives you a chance to speak to a pharmacist about how you’re getting on, what to expect, and how to take it safely
The NHS offers NMS for certain long-term conditions. If you’ve been given a new medicine, ask the Nashi Pharmacy team and we’ll check if you’re eligible. If you’re not eligible, or you live elsewhere in the UK, you can still speak to our pharmacist for advice about your medicines.
Our pharmacy team will let you know about the New Medicine Service when your new medicine is dispensed.
You can also ask the team about the service at any time. If it’s suitable for you, they’ll explain how it works and help you sign up.
Your first NMS consultation takes place around 7 to 14 days after you start your new medicine. This can be done in store or over the phone with a pharmacist, depending on what suits you.
A second New Medicine Service consultation usually takes place 14 to 28 days after you start your new medicine.
This follow-up gives you another chance to talk things through with a pharmacist, raise any concerns, and check how the medicine is fitting into your routine.
The New Medicine Service gives you time with a pharmacist to talk about your new medicine. You can ask questions, check you’re taking it in the right way, and flag anything that doesn’t feel right, like side effects or missed doses.
