Flaminal Forte Wound Gel
Flaminal Forte is an enzyme alginogel from Flen Health, a primary wound dressing in a tube for moderately to heavily exuding wounds. The hydrated alginate gel absorbs excess exudate and holds the moist balance a wound needs to heal, while it loosens and clears dead tissue through autolytic debridement. Its enzyme system of glucose oxidase and lactoperoxidase destroys bacteria drawn into the gel and reduces bacteria released from biofilm, yet spares the skin cells that rebuild the wound, with no evidence of antimicrobial resistance reported to date. One product cleans, absorbs and protects across every stage of healing, on wound types from leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers to burns, skin tears, surgical and traumatic wounds. Supplied as a single 15g tube, a pack of five 15g tubes or a 50g tube.
How to use
Clean the wound and the surrounding skin, then apply a layer of Flaminal Forte around 4 to 5mm thick over the whole wound bed and cover it with a secondary dressing suited to the exudate level. Renew the gel when its structure is no longer intact, typically every one to four days depending on how much the wound exudes, irrigating and cleaning the wound bed and removing the remaining gel at every change. The wound can look slightly larger in the first days as dead tissue clears; this is a normal part of debridement. If dry flakes of alginate appear in the wound itself, the wound has become too dry for Flaminal Forte and Flaminal Hydro is the better fit. Recap the tube carefully after use; an opened, recapped tube keeps at room temperature for 12 months.
Main Ingredients
Alginate (total alginate content 5.5% g/g), macrogol (polyethylene glycol), an enzyme system of glucose oxidase, lactoperoxidase, glucose and guaiacol, potassium sorbate, buffer and purified water. Flaminal Forte is a medical device manufactured by Flen Health.
Side Effects & Cautions
Do not use on anyone with a known allergy to any of the ingredients, including alginate dressings or macrogol (polyethylene glycol). The colour of the gel can vary slightly because the alginates are of natural origin; this has no effect on quality. Infected wounds should only be treated under medical supervision, and any wound that fails to progress, worsens or shows signs of infection needs review by a pharmacist, nurse or GP. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
