Co-codamol 8/500mg Tablets (32 Pack)
Co-codamol 8/500mg tablets combine two painkillers, codeine phosphate 8mg and paracetamol 500mg, for the short-term treatment of acute moderate pain that paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin alone has not relieved, such as headache, migraine, toothache, period pain and muscular or rheumatic pain. Can cause addiction. For three days use only. Codeine is an opioid, so this medicine suits short spells of pain, not regular use. Suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. This is a Pharmacy (P) medicine sold in a pack of 32 tablets; our pharmacist will ask a few questions at checkout before we can supply it, and the brand supplied may vary.
How to use
Swallow the tablets whole with water. Adults: one to two tablets every four to six hours as needed, and no more than eight tablets in 24 hours. Ages 16 to 18: one to two tablets every six hours, no more than eight in 24 hours. Ages 12 to 15: one tablet every six hours, no more than four in 24 hours. Not for children under 12. Leave at least four hours after taking any other painkiller before taking this medicine. Do not take it for more than three days; if the pain has not settled by then, speak to your pharmacist or GP. Always read the patient information leaflet before use.
Main Ingredients
Each tablet contains codeine phosphate 8mg and paracetamol 500mg. Excipients vary with the brand supplied and may include lactose; the full list appears in the patient information leaflet inside your pack.
Side Effects & Cautions
Do not exceed the stated dose, and do not take with any other product containing paracetamol or with other opioid painkillers. Do not take if you are breastfeeding, if you know you are an ultra-rapid metaboliser of codeine (CYP2D6), or if you are allergic to any ingredient. Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine. Codeine commonly causes constipation, nausea, drowsiness and dizziness; do not drive or use machinery if affected. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor first if you are pregnant, take sedatives, sleeping tablets or antidepressants, or have breathing, liver or kidney problems. Taking this medicine for longer than directed can lead to addiction, and stopping suddenly after prolonged use can cause withdrawal symptoms. In the event of an overdose seek immediate medical help, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage from paracetamol. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
